Behind the Streams, Ep. 34: "Broomsquirey"

Let's get into our minds and do a video sweep of this week's post.

If you didn’t read this week’s post “The Broomsquire’s Compendium of Mind and Body Besoms” I will read it to you, dramatically and enthusiastically, below. 👇

Reading commences as soon as you hit play. Enjoy!

Notes from the Captain

Crew, sometimes I wish I’d studied philosophy. Can you imagine how much MORE insufferable I’d be if I’d done that? But I can’t stop thinking about the brain. About how it works. About what happens when it gets cluttered with emotional baggage or it stalls in the middle of the intersection.

I’m not saying philosophy would help with any of those things, but I think it would cover me when folks say: “Why that lady always askin’ so many questions? Just get on with it, lady!”

Fair point.

Our ability to question existence is a wild one and smaller questions—why do I act the way I do? How can I be a better person?—these are, in my mind, harder and bigger questions of scope and scale and life impact.

This is sort of why—I think—I veer toward topics like mind-sweeping. Marie Kondo-ing the living rooms and kitchens and attics and all the rooms of our mind palaces.

We are all works in progress. We all have dust gathering upon our memories and clogging up the machinations of our minds.

A quick sweep, a sorting of the fluff, a constant swinging at cobwebs and hard-to-reach feelings, and course, plenty of room for fun-time swinging and sweeping: that’s the goal.

Why does the mind need so much maintenance anyway?

Broomsquires. We are all broomsquires1 for our own imperfect minds. Get to studying. Get to making. Get to sweeping up the magic and discarding the junk.

As an aside, I love NASA. I’m sure it’s constantly bogged down by government red tape and political bullshittery, but at its heart, you have smart smarts and big dreams and brooms on fire. (See my video above or read below for an explanation).

Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing I hope your creative projects are doing well.

Love what you love and I’ll talk to you again next week.

Your Captain, Janeen 🫡

Thangs from this episode…

👩‍✈️ NASA detecting a hydrogen leak with a broom

Someone from NASA showing how the Broom Solution works.

Read about the The Broom Solution

What did they replace the broom with? Learn about Hydrogen Tape

This excellent video 👇 explains a whole lot about hydrogen and the ways to detect it.

I briefly mentioned the NASA worm in the video. Like… threw it away in the middle of slander about faked moon landings and regular space stuff. Here’s some fun worm logo feels.

👩‍✈️ Besoms and Broom Squires

Please enjoy this video 👇 of a broom squire making a besom broom. Should fill your curiosity tank quite nicely. A bit disappointed that the broom squire does not have suspenders or a dapper hat (see my video above for an explanation of that comment). Elevate the profession! I did love his socks though.

Check out Jim, 👇 a broom squire in Appalachia. At the time of filming, he didn’t hold out much hope for the future of straw brooms what with the gas-powered blowers and laminate floor mops and sweepers. The update in the comments says he passed in 2023. RIP to this brother broom squire. 🫡 🧹

👩‍✈️ Witches on broomsticks. Why?

It’s just a theory. Or is it?

👩‍✈️ Dizzy stick (just because)

Thanks for listening/watching and sharing. If you want to chat about any of the concepts in this week’s post—or just in general—feel free to leave a comment for the Captain (it me.)

It’s typically written as two words, but I prefer the formality of one. Don’t @ me, nerds.
