Behind the Streams, Ep. 56: "Rooster"

Inside Bingo the Rooster's TED-style pep talk about self-promotion

If you didn’t read this week’s post “‘Everything I know about marketing,’ as told by a rooster” I will read it to you, dramatically and enthusiastically, below. 👇

Reading commences as soon as you hit play. Enjoy!

Notes from the Captain

Last week’s post was ridiculous—I make no apologies for it. And yes, it was inspired by a rooster crowing in what seemed like the middle of the night, one farm over, when I was recently at home visiting my dad on his farm.

First thought.

Why do roosters crow?

Second thought.

Roosters are excellent marketers.

Third thoughts lead to ridiculous things.

Things like me saying: You should write about that. And then writing about that.

If you didn’t read it, listen to me reading it to you in the audio file about. I sure to cock-a-doodle-doo a lot.

Do you find it difficult to promote your work? What is it about the act of telling people you’ve made something that makes some of us feel… I dunno, wrong? Is it shame? Is it embarrassment? All I know is that it’s not helpful in getting people to read or watch or listen to the things we make and so that is why we could all be a bit more rooster-ish and a whole lot less chicken.

Not a lot of supplemental material this week, but have it. Watch the video. That’s where all the fun is at.

Cock-a-doodle-doo!

Your Captain, Janeen 🫡

Any others? Nandos? Tottenham Hotspurs?

👩‍✈️ TED Talk Guide

While I don’t think the final talk by BINGO the Rooster was an actual TED talk, there is a format and a style to it.

Probably the most famous song about rooster behavior. What’s your favorite? Howlin’ Wolf? Willie Dixon? One of these three?
