Let's talk the big D-word.

Enjoy!

Notes from the Captain

This one is dedicated to my friend, Michael—aka Mick also known as Ironbar (back in our LAN party days)—and I hope that folks find this week’s video thought-provoking rather than depressing. The same with Monday’s post.

Here is a picture of Mick whose passing spurred me to write this week’s issue. I love this photo. It brings back such good memories of him. He sang. He laughed. He told great stories. He seemed to always be on a spiritual search. RIP Mick. I hope they’re playing Led Zeppelin I loud, wherever you are.

Folks don’t like talking about death, and I don’t either particularly, but we should. It helps us to process, it helps us to heal, and culturally, I think it keeps us healthy.

That is all.

Until next we meet, love what you love, and I’ll see you out there, making stuff.

Your Captain, Janeen 🫡

Thangs mentioned in this episode…

👩‍✈️ Previous ramblings about this subject

The first one, about the melanoma that announced itself on my back, wasn’t technically about the subject of death, but it sure had me musing about life! And as I say every time I share this one—get your skin checked regularly!

This next one was the one about the three-year anniversary of my mother’s passing. It’s over four now, and heading swiftly for the five. I’m still drinking the tea (that’s a call back to this week’s post.)

And this one is sort of on the topic. It’s about existence. It features a rather spectacular photo of my mum.

👩‍✈️ Postumously Productive: artists producing work from the grave

The Beatles will release a final record, using John Lennon’s voice via an AI assist

Prince Estate will release new music this weekend

👩‍✈️ Cormac McCarthy

Here is the box set I showed in the video. It’s The Passenger and Stella Maris, which you should read in that order (that’s what they said and that’s what I did.)

Signed copies of this are going for crazy prices.

👩‍✈️ Further reading

Why do celebrity deaths affect us so much?

That’s it. There is no further reading—I don’t want you to feel like you have homework.

This is not homework, but it occurs in a home at a dinner party. Here is the Death scene from The Meaning of Life.

“It’s a Mr. Death or Something? He’s come about the reaping?”

Guys, if you take anything away from this, it should be this: use fresh salmon in the salmon mousse!

I think that’s it…. thanks for listening/watching/being.

Do something great this weekend. Do something great your whole life if you can.

Do. Make. Be.
