Behind the Streams, Ep 18: "Brain(e)scape"

Sometimes the best ideas are found in the shower.

Please enjoy this week’s dramatic reading of Monday’s post: “Parts of your brain are out there, without you.”👇

Enjoy!

Notes from the Captain

No, it wasn’t called Brain(e)scape—but that was an option. Your brain IS escaping. Although, is it escape when you’re letting it go? Willingly? Of your own volition? (See why I didn’t use it).

Watch the video. It’s one of those philosophical ones I guess. I love the idea of parts of my brain—the work I create—being out there and doing the hard yards without me. Finding their fortunes or falling on the arses, with me stepping in when necessary. Just like kids.

Monday’s post also included a quote from a story about Sinead O’Connor. This post went up before she passed and for some reason, that news hit me hard. One of those “But I was just talking about her” moments. Her voice, her character, her… spirit. She never compromised and it hurts that she hurt. Ok. Play some Sinead today. That is all.

Until next we meet, love what you love, and I’ll see you out there, making stuff.

Your Captain, Janeen 🫡

Thangs from this video episode…

👩‍✈️ Stand clear of the closing doors

I miss the NY subway. Sometimes. (I don’t miss sitting across from someone trimming their toenails or eating Chinese food from a plastic bag or that feeling of putting your hand on the pole and it still being warm. Don’t miss that at all.)

Anyway, while I was searching for a sound effect of the ding of the closing doors for my video, I found this about the guy who does the ‘stand clear’ voiceover.

👩‍✈️ Bionic Commando

I never played this as a child as I never had a Nintendo. The only game I had as a kid of a cheap knockoff Tetris handheld.

Here is a picture of this gift I showed today, which I think I’ve maybe shown before, but surely that just proves I love it. So simple!

My friend, John Freebird (not his name…Freebiiiiiird!), who gave me this thing, has a newsletter with a collection of creative links from design, to the creative business, and everything in between. It’s just a link drop every week and you can follow it here at Weekly Creative Links or on LinkedIn.

Anyway, here is the end of the game dialog where this text is from. That’s them, hanging from the helicopter as the world explodes. Did you ever play this game? Lemme know in the comments.

👩‍✈️ Ideas in the shower

I’m not saying the inspiration for this post was my best idea, but…

Why do we get our best ideas in the shower? (Big Think)

Waterproof whiteboards are a thing? Ok. I figure if it’s an idea that’s worthy, I’ll remember it. If it’s not, down the drain it goes.

Thanks for listening/watching/being and sharing pieces of your brain with the world in whatever form. If I missed anything you were curious about, leave a comment.

Do something great this weekend. Do something great your whole life if you can.

Do. Make. Be.
